Winding streets. Sprawling, luxurious homes on large wooded lots. Acres of green space. A large community pool. Walking trails and scenic lakes. This is Highgate, one of Weddington’s most prestigious neighborhoods. Conveniently located near I-485, this elegant community combines the finest of suburban living with convenient access to the best shopping, dining and attractions in greater Charlotte. As for the neighborhood itself, here you will find homes designed and built by some of the region’s most in-demand builders, in period architectural styles like Tudor, English Manor, French Country and more, all in a beautiful, landscaped park-like setting that feels less like a subdivision and more like a resort. Welcome to Highgate.

Highgate is a newer subdivision set in a community rich in history. While the Town of Weddington was first incorporated in the 1980s, its roots go back much further, back to when the United States was brand-new and Revolutionary War veterans first settled here. The first church was built here in the 1820s; the railroad arrived 1874. Weddington eventually took its name in the 1890s from one of its earliest families. Mainly an agricultural community until the 1970s, as nearby Charlotte grew and expanded, Weddington became more suburban in nature, prompting community leaders to seek official incorporation to preserve its small-town feel. Today, while a newer community, the subdivision of Highgate with its sprawling, period-style homes hails back to quieter days, reminding its residents of a time when Weddington was still a rural farming community on the North Carolina countryside, yet combined with a feel of luxury and elegance for those with a discriminating sense of style.
