Dickens Mitchener team members and their families spent the evening of March 19 serving homeless neighbors at Selwyn Presbyterian Church for Room In The Inn.
Room In The Inn is a branch of the Charlotte based Urban Ministry Center that partners with local churches to host homeless neighbors overnight in the winter months. Selwyn Presbyterian Church hosts the guests every Monday night and volunteer groups provide dinner, breakfast and a brown bag lunch for the guests along with a shower and a place to sleep.
“The most common human bond is that of sitting down with friends and sharing a meal,” said Melanie Vise, Dickens Mitchener Office Administrator. “By sharing with our homeless neighbors it gives us a chance to get out of our comfort zone and meet people you otherwise wouldn’t.”
Each year, the Dickens Mitchener team hosts a fish fry including homemade coleslaw and hush-puppies to share with the guests. Bill Williams, a long time Dickens Mitchener agent, came out of retirement for the third year in a row to continue this tradition.
